2013 Yankees: 85-77, 4th in AL East
Manager: Joe Girardi, 7th season
Player to Watch: Jacoby Ellsbury
Prospect to Watch: Masahiro Tanaka
CC’s 2014 Outlook: After talking with Erik Boland, Yankees beat writer for NY Newsday, I got the impresstion that this year’s Yankees will miss the postseason yet again. Some of that has to do with the uncertainty in the infield and the rest has to do with the talent in the AL East. Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettite are no longer active New York Yankees. Robinson Cano signed with the Mariners and Curtis Granderson went to the NY Mets. As Erik pointed out, the last time the Yankees missed the playoffs, they went on an off season spending spree. This offseason was no different. They brought in Masahiro Tanaka, Brian McCann, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Carlos Beltran amongst others. C.C. Sabathia remains the ace of a staff that may run into trouble if the injury bug bites. Don’t be surprised if the Yankees make a move for a 2B before the 2014 season is all said and done. Could Derek Jeter’s storied career with the Yankees end by missing the playoffs? Maybe. In my opinion, the Yankees need everything to line up like it did last year for the Red Sox.
